Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®): A new treatment option for managing obesity
New community-based weight management services are being developed across the Black Country to support safe and effective access to
tirzepatide (Mounjaro®), a medication that can help with weight loss and related health conditions. We anticipate these will be available via
primary care from September 2025.
As part of our phased approach, the first group of patients who may be eligible will include those who:
• Have a BMI of 40 or more (or 37.5 for people from minority ethnic backgrounds),
• And have obstructive sleep apnoea on CPAP (or where CPAP is not tolerated)
And have at least three of the following long-term conditions:
• Type 2 diabetes
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• Cardiovascular disease
• Dyslipidaemia
Other patients who meet the broader NHS criteria (BMI ≥ 40 and four or more related health conditions) may become eligible in later stages.
Please do not contact the practice about tirzepatide at this time. If you are eligible, you will be contacted by your practice.
Weight management services are locally commissioned by the Black Country Integrated Care Board, you can find out more information on
Access to Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) for Weight Management in the Black Country here.
ADHD Medication
We are currently unable to comply with any request from ADHD specialists for the practice take over the prescribing responsibility for your specialist ADHD medication.
This decision is in line with our General Medical Council (GMC) duty of care to patients and is based on the following:
• Our clinicians are not trained or experienced in initiating this specialist medication. Initiation should remain with your ADHD specialist, who can provide the necessary expertise.
• Shared care arrangements, which typically involve clear guidance on prescribing, monitoring, and managing any complications, have not been established for this medication at our practice.
• Additionally, the prescribing of this medication under shared care arrangements has not been commissioned as an enhanced service for our practice by the Black Country ICB.
We recommend that you continue to receive this medication directly through your specialist, either via the hospital pharmacy or by obtaining a hospital FP10HP prescription, which can be dispensed at your local pharmacy.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but we must prioritise safe and appropriate care for all our patients. If you have any questions, please discuss them with your specialist.
You can contact Black Country ICB via their website to provide feedback about lack of commissioned services for ADHD medication in this area, by visiting:

Thank you for your understanding.
